Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir set for short dance

on defending Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada as they take to the ice
for the short dance in what will likely be their final Olympic event.Virtue and Moir, who h
ave skated together since 1997, have hinted that they could be calling it quits when the Oly
mpic torch is extinguished.As Olympic gold medallists, two-time world champions and five-tim
e Canadian champions, they can obviously hang up their skates without any regrets. However,
there is one more thing they would love to add to their resumes.Over the past two seasons, V
irtue and Moir have consistently finished behind the American tandem of Meryl Davis and Char
lie White in head-to-head competition, including the team event earlier in the Games, when t
he Canadians were second to the Americans in the ice dance portion of the event.Canada’s sw
eethearts now get a second and perhaps final chance to exact some revenge on their arch-riva
ls. A victory here in Sochi, on the biggest stage of all, would be the ultimate way to finis
h off an incredible career.Canada’s second pairing of Kaetlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje may be
overshadowed by their compatriots, but they are definitely part of the conversation when it
comes to predicting the bronze medal winners.Other teams with a shot at the podium include
Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte of Italy, Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat of France, a
nd Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev of Russia.Virtue and Moir are scheduled to skate 18
th, with Weaver and Poje 23rd in the startlist. The third Canadian entry, Alexandra Pau
l and Mitchell Islam, will be the first on the ice, skating 12th.Davis and White will be the
last group to skate.
